Door County Photography Location Guide

Location, Location, Location! The backdrop, lighting, and overall ambiance of the location all contribute to the mood and aesthetics of the images we will capture. The location should complement the mood we’re going for, so we need to factor in things like the time of day (I’ve noted best times below.)

The first thing to remember when it comes to picking a location for your photos is figuring out the vibe you want! Do you want to go on an adventure, splash around at the beach or frolic in a field? For families, I advise picking something your kids will enjoy. The more excited they are by their surroundings, the happier they will be. If you don’t want them getting wet, then maybe the beach isn’t the right place for you (ha!) If they love throwing rocks into water, then we can find a cute creek! If you’re able to, I recommend visiting the location before your shoot.

I have organized locations by town, so you can choose something nearby wherever you’re staying! Ideally, I suggest to stay within 30 minutes drive time, especially with small children.

Ultimately, the right location sets the stage for a compelling visual story.
